32 Gender Neutral Names (and Their Meaning) That I Love

Picking a gender neutral name is becoming very popular.

Some parents are trying to break gender boundaries and are focusing on gender fluidity. Others wish to seek gender equality. Some believe that by naming their daughter a more masculine name (or their son a feminine name) it will give them a head start, should they wish to go into a career that is dominated by members of the opposite sex.

However, it’s not always a political statement.

Some parents just fall in love with one very particular name before they even discover the sex and others like the way certain gender neutral names sound.

Whatever your reasons, gender neutral names are definitely on the rise and considered more modern and progressive.

Grandma may not like it, but I’m sure she will learn to love it!

3 Things to consider when choosing a name:

  1. Can the name be shorted? For example, ‘Nevada’ can be shorted to ‘Nev’ - do you like the shorted version? If not, you might want to cross it off of your list.
  2. Most name associations won’t last. So if you had your heart set on a name, and then a celeb happens to use it before you, don’t let that deter you - it’s unlikely to make any difference in the long run
  3. Are there any family name traditions you would like to continue? Or maybe now would be a great opportunity to start a tradition of your own!

No matter what name you pick, it will be perfect. There will be critics regardless so try to tune them out and go with your gut.
