Bert’s Barrow - A Hidden Gem
There are so many things I love about Bert’s Barrow it’s hard to know where to start. I stumbled across this little gem after a friend tagged them in an Instagram post and of course curiosity got the better of me.
This humble little farm has turned into a family hot spot for locals and it’s easy to see why. Nestled in the quaint village of Hillam, the farm has such a lovely atmosphere which keeps us coming back over and over again.

My favourite time to visit is on a Sunday morning when they do bacon and sausage butties with fresh hot tea and coffee - total bliss.
If a hot meal doesn’t appeal in this beautiful weather, you can always treat yourself to a delicious Yorvale ice cream.
And while you’re in the shop, take a look at the lush fruit and veggies - most of which are locally produced. They also do a veg box delivery service which is perfect for those that want to do their bit to support local businesses but don’t have the time to call in on a weekly basis.
And the cakes by Beth’s Kitchen are to die for!!

Oh and don’t forget to pick up a 50p bag of animal food and feed the chickens and goat.
There’s a super cute little playground which is perfect for younger children. It’s totally enclosed so I let my daughter go in alone (we’re working on encouraging independence!) and I sit on a near by picnic table with my latte and maybe even a cheeky chocolate brownie.

There are also kids ride-on tractors, a little grassed area perfect for kicking a ball around and a barn for when the weather isn’t looking promising. And, when in season, you can pick your own strawberries (which are delicious) and pumpkins (not tried them but they’re probably delicious too!) so you can show your little ones exactly where and how their food grows.
And did I mention the street food nights!? They usually take place on a Friday (unless they have a wedding booked) and they invite gourmet street food companies in (think rustic pizzas, posh hot dogs and vibrant tacos) and they often have some kind of entertainment and they open the bar - what more could you want for a Friday night?

There’s always something happening at Bert’s Barrow whether that be Pizza on a Friday night, Saturday morning yoga, Sunday butty morning, Christmas fairs, wedding fairs, meet the producer days, messy play, lamb feeding - the list is endless!

But even on the days when there’s absolutely nothing taking place, it’s such a lovely spot to visit with your kids for an hour of fresh air.
Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram so you don’t miss out and spread the word so this lovely little family run business can keep doing what they do best.
