Lucy’s Newborn Shoot
I recently had the pleasure of welcoming the gorgeous Lucy to my studio for a Newborn Session.
Lucy’s Mummy and Daddy wanted a mix of pastel colours, some family photos, and a couple of shots incorporating some of their shared interests - one of which being Marvel! My superhero knowledge is a little rusty so I did a bit of research and settled on Captain Marvel as my muse and I couldn’t be happier with the result!
Lucy’s lovely mummy has very kindly given some hints and tips for other expectant mums so please keep reading!
Did you attend any antenatal classes?
I attended one pregnancy yoga class but it unfortunately bored the life out of me so I didn’t go back. I didn’t attend any birth classes or anything like that as I didn’t want to pre-empt my experience I wanted to just take it all in my stride.
What items did you pack in your hospital bag that you could not have lived without and which items do you wish you had left at home?
The best thing I had in my hospital bag was a 1 litre water bottle that I filled up with warm water... after birth weeing was HORRENDOUS especially when you’ve got stitches! Pouring warm water down there while your weeing is a god send! A baggy jumpsuit for coming home in was also a great idea ☺️ the only thing I didn’t use in my hospital bag was a tens machine, once your on gas and air you’ll boss it.
How did you choose Lucy's name?
We started off by calling my bump different names to see what had a nice ring to it, we liked Lucy pretty quickly plus Joe’s great nan was called Lucy so it was a perfect choice really.
What has been your biggest baby splurge to date?
I’ve actually been really sensible throughout pregnancy and since Lucy was born... somehow! I think I spent the most money on food ????????
What’s surprised you most about life with a newborn?
My biggest surprise was how anxious I felt about leaving the house! The first couple of times were awful but it is getting easier.
What advice would you give to expectant mums?
When it comes to labour listen to your own body not what everyone around you is saying, you’ll know exactly what to do when the time comes we were made for this! oh and don’t buy loads of fancy shit for baby... bouncers and sleep nest etc you won’t use them and baby probably won’t even like them, baby just wants you so be prepared for a very needy mini me! Invest in a nice soft fabric sling so you can at least make some food :)
Thank you so much to Amy, Joe and Lucy for choosing me to capture your family memories. I can’t wait to welcome you back to the studio soon.
